At Maple Tree Cancer Alliance, we believe that formalized exercise science education and continuing professional development are cornerstones of competent exercise professionals. As such, our Certification Board is an independent and autonomous governing body for the Exercise Oncology Instructor certification. Members who serve on our Certification Board play an integral role in the development and support of Certified EOI professionals. The Certification Board members are impartial related to the education and training leading to the initial certification. Certification Board members play a vital, active role in advancing the MTCA mission and helping people worldwide live longer, healthier lives while battling cancer.

The MTCA Certification Board is responsible for the following:

  • Maintaining complete autonomy in the certification process to ensure the examination remains unbiased and fair for all individuals involved
  • Providing suggestions and approvals for the MTCA budget as it pertains to the certification program and establishing all pricing involved with the certification program
  • Assisting with selecting and ensuring all SMEs utilized in the JTA and Exam Development Process are qualified and impartial related to education/training
  • Adopting certification programs and certification board policies and procedures for resolving professional and ethical concerns
  • Establishing, administering, and regulating policies and procedures for resolving professional and ethical concerns
  • Ensuring as the industry and needs of the industry change, the certification exam and process change at the same pace
  • Assisting with the developing JTA and examinations which assess the knowledge and skills required for the role of a professionally certified EOI
  • Ensuring the quality of the EOI exam and processes meet the NCCA standards and remain at the highest levels within the industry
  • Electing and/or approving successive members of the Certification Board
  • Ensuring that anyone who has applied and is eligible can attempt the certification exam, and that the policies and procedures are clear and precise to enable ease of understanding and adequate completion of requirements

MTCA Certification Board Members

The MTCA Certification Board is comprised of seven members, including four academicians, two practitioners, and a public member. Board members are nominated by the Certification Board Executive Committee and appointed by the Chairman. Elected members serve three-years terms with a maximum of two consecutive terms. Terms begin January 1 and terminate December 31.
